Almost, in all cases, business manager assistants enter this job field after completing Associate Degree in Business Management.

The salary range for Business Management Assistant is from $25,000 to $50,000 per year, where median salary is $30,000.

Employment within this sector is to be expected to grow more than 23% between the years 2010 and 2020. Hence, this is faster than the average (i.e., 11% as of 2012 job outlook survey).

The Administrative Assistant reports to the Senior Administrative Officer and is responsible for providing administrative and clerical services. Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure that municipal operations are maintained in an effective and efficient manner.

1. Provide administrative support to ensure that municipal operations are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner
Main Activities:

  • Maintain office files
  • Type correspondence, reports and other documents
  • Open and distribute the mail
  • Take minutes at meetings
  • Distribute minutes
  • Coordinate repairs to office equipment


2. Provide support to Council to ensure that Council is provided with the resources to make effective decisions
Main Activities:

  • Maintain confidential records and files
  • Maintain records of decisions
  • Arrange for payment of honorariums
  • Research and assist with the preparation of motions, policies and procedures
  • Review and edit reports to the Board
  • Prepare correspondence for Board members
  • Prepare documents and reports on the computer
  • Schedule Board meetings
  • Prepare agendas for Board meeting
  • Prepare packages for Board meetings
  • Attend board meetings
  • Record minutes and submit minutes for approval 

7. What do you find appealing about this occupation?  Any drawbacks?  How does it relate to your key work values and skills?

It requires a lot of critical thinking and problems solving which is appealing to me.  It also relates well to me because I am typically able to identify problems before they occur, think creatively, and develop plans to solve existing problems.

8. What college major or program will you need to pursue this occupation/career?  What steps will you need to take in order to achieve your career goal(s)?

In order to pursue career as business management assistant/administrative assistant, following things are needed,

I. Complete an Associate degree in Business Management.
II. Complete summer and yearlong internships with corporate companies.
III. Work in a full-time position as an entry-level administrative assistant for two years.
IV. Pursue and complete a Master of Business Administration in Management.
V. Work as a senior-level Business Manager with multinational companies.

9. After researching this occupation, do you think this career path is still an option as a long-term career goal?  Why or why not?

After researching this occupation, I am still interested in pursuing a career in Business Administration. Because, it’s annual growth of employ-ability is higher than the average employ-ability growth. Moreover, it’s annual earning is high enough to attract me while responsibilities related to this job are of my interests.

Although there are high prospects of acquiring further knowledge in this ground, but as I am thinking of doing other creative works, so that I am not planning now to transfer institution.
