Fasting on the day of 'Ashura: Implications for Muslim

From the below mentioned to hadiths, it is to be stated that fasting on the day of ‪'‎Ashura‬ expiates the sins of the last year but it is not obligatory to keep fasting on this day. Here you may have a look.

Abu Qatada al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about his fasting. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) felt annoyed. Thereupon 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) said:

.... He was asked about fasting on the day of 'Ashura (10th of Muharram), whereupon be said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year.

And in another hadith from Sahih-al-Bukhari is here to be mentioned,

Narrated `Aisha:

(The tribe of) Quraish used to fast on the day of Ashura' in the Pre-Islamic period, and then Allah's Apostle ordered (Muslims) to fast on it till the fasting in the month of Ramadan was prescribed; whereupon the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He who wants to fast (on 'Ashura') may fast, and he who does not want to fast may not fast."

Thanks for reading these hadiths with patience.
